Headaches might be common, but they are not normal! Every headache has a cause.
Many things can cause a headache: intense lights, smells, sinus problems, high blood pressure, ear infections, vision troubles, dental problems, infections, fevers, epidurals, alcohol, drugs, accidents etc. Just by worrying about all the things that can cause the headache can cause you one. The most common causes are physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies or chemical toxins.
Regardless of the cause, if you have a headache, you want it to end. Fast!
Where does the pain in the head come from?
The ache in the head usually does not come from the brain but from the veins and arteries inside the brain and skull, membranes that cover the brain and cranial nerves. When these are irritated, compressed or inflamed the headache is most likely to result.
Depends on what is the cause of it. A headache coming from visual problems can be resolved by getting your eyes checked and corrected. Most commonly headaches are treated with painkillers. As the painkillers can give convenient relief from headache, but long-term use can have side effects.
A cause of the headache can be from spinal bones in the neck that are not supporting your head properly. This can affect nerves, muscles and blood supply to your head.
Doctor of chiropractic uses special tests and palpation to locate areas of the spine that are not moving properly. They notice spinal curves, look at your posture and your ability to turn and bend. These and many other examinations can help to determine if you are likely to benefit from chiropractic care.
Your care will consist of schedule of chiropractic adjustments. These help to normalize spinal function, help to restore essential spinal curves, improve circulation and reduce nerve irritation. Many chiropractic patients report fewer and less severe headaches.
How long will it take?
Some people enjoy results quickly. Others notice a slow decline in their symptoms after several weeks or longer of chiropractic care. It is impossible to predict. If you have had chronic headaches for many years, it can take time to get you back to balanced, pain free state, be patient.
What causes neck pain?
Many everyday things can cause a neck pain like bad posture, working too long on the computer, falling asleep on the sofa or long trips on an airplane or a car.
Your neck is the most vulnerable part of your spine. It must allow the free flow of nerve impulses to the head, face, hands and the whole body. Cervical spine (neck) is made up of 7 interlocking bones. Most of the pain sensitive nerves are located in the facet joints of the vertebra. These joints allow you to move your head back and forth and side to side. If those joints become fixated the normal motion and function of the neck is disturbed resulting in the neck pain. Often accompanied with tight muscles, limited motion of the neck.
It is more difficult to correct a problem that has been neglected for years. Often there are degenerative changes. Like reversed cervical curve, bone spurs, disc thinning and other forms of spinal decay.
Neck pain is a sign of something not being quite right, simply ignoring it will not be a solution.
Properly educated chiropractic doctor knows how to restore the normal motion of the neck.
Where does the pain in the back come from?
The nerve-rich facet joints on the back side of each spinal bone are common cause of back pain. If those joints are not moving right, it can be a cause of the painful symptoms.
The discs between spinal bones can be a source of back pain too. These rings of fibrous tissues act as spacers, connectors and ‘shock absorbers’ for the spine to resist the constant force i.e. gravity. Trauma can cause the soft, pulpy material in the middle to bulge or herniate, causing pressure on sensitive nearby nerves.
About 85% of population will experience disabling low back pain at least once during their life time! That sounds like almost all of us.
The standard medical approach to back pain varies depending on the severity of the condition. Muscle relaxers and physical therapy are commonly used if the problem does not improve then surgery, the most drastic measure, might be performed. Laminectomy cuts off the offending facet joints. A spinal fusion cuts out the disc tissue and immobilizes the joint. Many people who have had back surgery report that their symptoms and problems return in few years and many returns to the operating table. In some cases, the surgery does not make a big difference, in some cases it gives a long-term relief.
More and more people are choosing chiropractic care first. Specific chiropractic adjustments can help to improve spinal function.
Chiropractic has helped millions of people with lower back problems, often saving them from pain, drugs and surgery. Chiropractors goal is to help your spine to become more free, stronger and healthier. Often a person can get a lot of help even when the problems have grown to be big. Visiting a chiropractor can make a big difference on your journey through Life.
Whiplash is a trauma to cervical spine area (the neck) caused by the sudden movement of the head backward, forward or sideways. It happens most commonly when the car is struck from behind or it collides with another object (animal). When the head is struck back and forth suddenly, over-extending from its normal limits the muscles, ligaments and other supporting structures are damaged. Very often the extent of the accident is measured by the amount of damage to the car, but often the occupants suffer bigger damage, more serious spinal injuries than the car, but that is over looked.
This results in instability of the spine, and soft tissue, which can lead to headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, stiffness and pain in the shoulders, reduced ability to turn your head or bend it forward, also lower back problems. It can take months before the real symptoms express itself.
How can chiropractic help?
Educated Chiropractic doctor uses specific chiropractic adjustments to normalize the spinal function. It takes several visits to restore the proper motion and function of the spine again. Longer time the problem is ignored, longer it takes to restore more balanced state of health.
A common result of acceleration/deceleration injuries is the loss of normal cervical (neck) curve, which can lead to vast variety of neurological findings.
Well educated chiropractic doctors are experts in restoring balanced state of your body and health, so you can LIVE LIFE with ease again!
Early detection can improve the likelihood of correction. Scoliosis is first noticed often on boys and girls between the age of 8-18, girls more. The cause can vary.
It is a sideways curvature of the spine. Any deviation of the spinal column to sideways is considered abnormal. Looking from the back the spine should look straight. With scoliosis there are usually two curves: primary and compensatory.
Scoliosis is tragic. It can cause emotional suffering and physical pain. This sideways bending of the spine shows up as abnormal posture and then turn into deformity. If allowed to advance, it can interfere with lungs, heart and other vital organs.
In the beginning, when it is easiest to correct it, there are rarely symptoms. However, a parent can notice if the clothing does not fit properly; one hip or shoulder is higher than the other, shoes wear off unevenly etc. Some kids develop leg and back pains, but they are overlooked as “growing pains”. The biggest danger is neglecting the problem.
Make sure your children use both straps on their backpack. Load of their bag should not exceed 15% of their body weight.
If allowed to run its course, scoliosis can steadily worsen. Severe cases can involve surgery. This procedure attaches steel rods to the spinal column to force it to straighten. The rods are lengthened as the child grows, involving many surgical interventions.
Primary course of care is a program of specific chiropractic adjustments. These will help to improve the function and structure of the spine. Muscles can develop right and get stronger with that posture will improve- along with self-esteem of the young developing child.
